I finished my September Schnibbles quilt top tonight with mixed emotions. The flying geese gave me fits. Flying geese are not usually my area of trouble, so this was particularly frustrating for me. I did not care for the method in the pattern. The geese were too big, and when I trimmed them down to the proper size called for in the pattern, allowing 1/4 inch seam allowance above the top point, it shorted me on the side points. I lost either way. So I sat in a pile of wayward geese on the living room floor, debating whether or not I should scrap it and find a different collection of fabric to start over, or to just go with the poor little geese. The geese won over. And though they're lost in flight with little clipped wings, they are all present. Although I don't think the majority of them are able to fly in a straight line anymore. And it really isn't the end of the world. In fact, it brought to mind a recent post on another blog about what we do when things don't turn out right. When do you rip it out and start over? When do you let it slide? At the time, I didn't quite know where I sat on that topic, but now I know. How I deal with imperfect sewing is directly proportionate to how tired I am.
Overall, I am pleased with my Winter White. I used three charm packs of Cornucopia wovens, some miscellaneous Cornucopia yardage, and some scraps from my stash. It's soft and warm and evokes feelings of early Fall. It reminds me of romantic strolls down leaf-strewn streets at that magic time of evening when the sun paints everything gold. I really want to put a cozy golden flannel on the back, but it's not quite big enough to be a lap quilt. Unless it becomes just that. A lap quilt, that covers nothing more than one's lap. It would be better suited draped over a side table or the back of the couch. Or, Tigger wouldn't mind if I just left it on the floor as is. He thinks it really brings out the color of his eyes.
* Well, I'm packed, the car's loaded with luggage, sewing machine, fabric, Mint Milano cookies and Diet Pepsi. My friend Lorilee and I are off tomorrow at the crack of dawn to drive down to Utah. It should take about four days. I'm going because my best friend Chamaine is having a baby girl and was kind enough to plan it after the tourist season. Lorilee is going because she lives in the same area as Chamaine and roadtrips are more fun with someone else. Lorilee is a riot and I can't wait to start the laughing! We are bound to have a blast for sure. Canada doesn't know what's about to hit them. They'll think it's a revival of the Calgary Stampede.
I may or may not blog while I'm in Utah. I have good intentions of doing so, but let's be honest, it's vacation. But I'll be taking lots of pictures and will be sure to tell you all about it when I get back on October 12th.

Are you home yet? I miss you!
