I still haven't sewn on that last border of my Native Rainbow. (Seriously, what IS my problem? I am in a quilting drought. Send help fast.) Again, and I hesitate to announce this, only to be held accountable.....but I HOPE to do it soon. As in possibly tonight. Or maybe tomorrow.
Since I have no quilty progress to shout from the rooftops, I thought I'd take you on a brief tour of the quilt shop I work part-time in during the winters. Brief, because we've been busy bees in there this week making kits for the summer, and there were only certain parts of the shop that were in suitable condition to be photographed. But let it be said, it's a wonderful shop, chock full of every single moose and bear print imaginable, and a batik section that will leave your jaw on the floor. If you're ever visiting Skagway, be sure to stop in. Tell them Allyson sent you. It won't get you any big discounts or anything, but it'll make them real happy to know I'm out doing PR for them. Seriously though, do stop in. You'll be happy you did.
The shop is called The Rushin' Tailor. In fact, a couple years ago, there was an article in Quilter's Newsletter about the store, and Pat, a summer employee who comes up to work the tourist season. Pat's a kick in the pants. She's hilarious and if you ever get the chance to visit the shop, be sure to say hi to her. She'll have you laughing in no time.
We have a couple snowballers who have finished their quilts. Have a peek!
Here's Janice's quilt :
I love this block with the funky chicken peeking out:
Stop by her blog and read the story about how she named her quilt. It's pretty funny. Congrats on finishing Janice!
Next up is Sinta's shabby chic snowball quilt in romantic pinks. I just love it!
Congratulations on finishing Sinta!
So about my cat. I have a sewing room downstairs. A whole entire room devoted to nothing but quilting. It has pretty cupboards full of fabric, and fun baskets full of colorful threads and bright buttons. But honestly, it's really just a glorified fabric storage room. In the winter, I prefer to sewupstairs most of the time. On a little Costco folding table in the corner of the living room. I can't help it. I feel like I'm going to miss something if I'm holed up downstairs all by myself. And this way, I can still talk with Keith and see what's going on in the center of the house.
A few days ago we couldn't find Tigger. Now remember, Tigger weighs 23 pounds. He doesn't just hide himself in little cracks and crevices where a normal cat would fit. Besides, he's worse than I am about being afraid of missing something. Particularly dinner. So it was odd that he wasn't sprawled out somewhere in plain sight, like, say, in front of the refrigerator. And then we saw him, perched up on a pile of my UFO's on my living room sewing table. I've been going back and forth about posting this picture for days. I think it's hilarious, but I also am embarrassed to show you my quilty mess in the living room. As you can see, the funny cat trumps the dirty living room. (Which, by the way, doesn't always look like this.) We have no idea what he was doing, but my guess is he did something naughty and was giving himself a time-out. Good kitty.

Looks like a great shop. I think Tigger is doing the bit of, if I can't see you, you can't see me. Mine was always funny about hiding his head and thinking all of his fluffy self was hid.

The shop looks fun, where is it?
I sew in my living room too for the same reason. Most of my fabrics reside in the guest room closet and use the bed in there to lay things out, but come to the living room to sew on a little computer desk from Walmart. Hey it works for me too! I think my guy would forget who I was if I sewed in the guestroom.

That looks like the most fantastic quilt shop ever! Better than anything we have in NH including Keepsake Quilting. Love the naughty cat!

Wow, lucky you, to get to work in such a nice shop. Kits....very clever, something easy for a traveler to pick up and take home.
What's up with that cat!! What a funny picture, I"m glad you posted it, although I don't think that room looks messy. How long did Tigger stay there?
Where did you get the Mickey plane?

I've been to that shop and am ready to head to Skagway again. Dh & I were on a cruise for our 10th anniversary. I don't know if it was Pat, but a gal from Illinois helped me, she lives about 2 hours away from me! I hope to get back to Alaska soon!

The shop looks fab...
My cat does the same thing...turns her back on me. What's up with that? Though right now she's looking at me.

OMG, you weren't kidding about the batiks. Glad I won't be in Skagway anytime soon as my wallet couldn't handle it.
Cats are so funny, aren't they?
