Remember this:
Now it looks like THIS:
We've had an unusually hot summer, with weeks and weeks of temps in the high 80's and low 90's. It was blissfully wonderful. We picnicked, hiked, rode our bikes, sweated and got really fun tan lines. This all resulted in an early onset Autumn. I love fall! So many things about it make me smile. The colors are warm and cozy - oranges, golds and rusty browns. It's time to pull out the fuzzy socks and heavy sweaters. And the scarves! Oh man alive, do I love scarves. I have way too many for one person with only one neck. They're such a fun accessory. Fall is a wonderful time of year for food. Hearty soups that make the house smell sweet with simmering vegetables and savory herbs. Homemade breads and holiday baking. Fall is a family time of year. With the men in the living room watching football and bragging over embellished hunting stories, and the women in the kitchen, bonding over heirloom china and sharing cherished family recipes while standing over the sink. This is a stereotype of huge proportions, I know, but I tell you right now, I love it. My favorite memories growing up are in the kitchen with my grandmothers, aunts and cousins. The kitchen is where I learned that not only do I love my Aunt's green rice casserole, but that I really truly love my Aunt. Even though she did try to ground me when I was seven for sticking a safety pin in the neck of my cousin's hoppity horse. Back then, I had wisdom beyond my years and took it upon myself to teach my fellow cousin's a valuable life lesson about sharing. I had three cousins; they each had their own hoppity horse. It made perfect sense to drop it down to TWO.
Here's a few pictures of fall in Skagway and British Columbia.
PS. I'm working on my little Schnibbles! Will post pics soon!

What beautiful pictures, Allyson. And I really did love your "homey" narrative. It all sounds wonderful.

How fortunate you are to live in a place where there is an obvious change in seasons. Here in California, the changes are so subtle.
Your photos are gorgeous.

You lucky duck! What beautiful surroundings you live in! Does the whole stay light in the summer and dark in the winter thing bother you at all?
By the way, thank you so much for checking up on me. This has been a summer that I never want to repeat!
