This past October, Nicole and I co-hosted a challenge for a beautiful red and white scrappy snowball quilt. We put the word out, and you signed up. Over the past three months, you've posted about your progress and today we have a virtual quilt show of all you finishers. It has been so fun to see the variances each of you have added to your quilt, putting your own spin on a simple, but traditional pattern.
On with the show!
This Santa red and white snowball quilt was made by Thelma of Cupcakes 'n Daisies. You can read her post about her finished top here. Thelma always adds a little sparkling personal touch to her quilts, and her little peek-a-boo Santa faces in the centers of some of her nine patches definitely delivers. Thelma also won the award for finishing her top FIRST.
The above quilt is Nicole's from Sister's Choice Quilts. Her original post about her finished top is here. I love the Inkwell fabric she used for her outer border. And that small black inner border really makes everything pop.
Next up is Rose Marie's from Applique 'n Patch Quilting. Her original post can be found here. She increased her block size from 6" to 9" to make hers big enough to cover a double bed. My favorite part about hers is the striped inner border. I just love it!
Lesly from Pickle Dish definitely takes the cake with her bright and cheery backing! I love it! Nothing dreary about this quilt. Check it out here.
Up next is Lizzie's snowball quilt from Quilting in Northern California. Where in Northern California? I grew up in Placerville. Just curious. Her original post is here. Go check her blog out for a fun photo of her quilt joining other pretty red and white quilts on her quilt ladder. I really want one of those.
Another pretty collection of reds can be found here on Sunshine's Stitchin' blog by Melissa C. Her's was her final finished quilt for 2009. I say a great way to end the year!
Debra in Ohio is already testing out her finished snowball top on her bed. Looks like it fits perfectly! Check hers out here.
Moving on down the line is Chris's snowball quilt from Cats on My Quilts. She stepped outside the red and white box and incorporated sunny yellows in her quilt and it's gorgeous. So happy and cheery. And her quilting job is to die for. Go look. I promise it'll make you smile.
This next quilt is from one of our no-blog quilting friends....Christine. She added her own personal touch on her borders and I have to say, it's awesome. It definitely makes the quilt feel wintery and snowflakey. Isn't that fun?
More quilty goodness from Carol. Carol had a lot of fun using her free time to sew this quilt. Looks like it was definitely worth it.
Another one of our non-blogging friends said a snow day saved the day for her. She finished it just under the wire to meet the deadline. Here's Nan's above. I had a lot of fun looking at your selection of reds used in your top, Nan. I see a few in there that I've used in the past. One of my favorite things about scrap quilts is looking over all the different pieces.
Woo wee! Look who totally stepped outside the box and went green! This lucky green and white snowball quilt is from Jennifer P over at My Creative Threads. Here'smore pics from her original post.
Judith at Quilt or Dye turned her snowball challenge into a beautiful piece of art. Be sure to check this one out here. I love the incorporation of the black.
Coming Through the Barn Door is Julie's finished quilt. And what a beaut! Look how cozy and crinkly this quilt looks. All ready for snuggling. And I'm pretty sure Julie was the first to have hers quilted and binded! She finished her last bit of binding on Christmas Day. Shouldn't there be a prize for that? *wink wink*
Our last quilt comes from Anne in Canada. Anne, I hope you're backing it in flannel, cause if you're having any kind of weather like we are, you could use it for sure! Your picture is at a good height for viewing the secondary star pattern the snowball corners make.
I think that about sums up all the finished snowball quilts. If I missed yours, please let me know and I'll add it right in. Tomorrow, all the finishers names go in a pot and wa-la! Out comes a name for the grand prize winner! Be sure to check back in. It could be your lucky day.
Now for the good stuff....
THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the swap and challenge. THANK YOU to everyone who kept us in the loop with your progress blog posts. THANK YOU for making such beautiful quilts and sharing them with us.
